Biografia:
I nvestigador Coordenador da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra Licenciatura em Biologia (1987), Doutoramento em Biologia Celular (1997) e Agregação em Biomedicina (2009) pela Universidade de Coimbra. Foi Professor de Fisiologia na Universidade do Minho (1989 a 1999) e Investigador na Universidade do Coimbra (desde 1999), onde é regente do ciclo de unidades curriculares em Investigação Aplicada. Desenvolve investigação no domínio das Neurociências e do Envelhecimento. Publicou cerca de 120 artigos científicos, em revistas internacionais, com impacto significativo na comunidade científica; sendo citado por mais de 3500 vezes, incluindo citações em revistas como a Science e a Nature, entre outras (factor H36). Foi fundador do consórcio Ageing@Coimbra e Deputy Director lnnoStars da EIT Health, Comunidade do Conhecimento e Inovação (KIC). Foi vice-Director do Instituto de Investigação l nterdiscilinar (2013-2015), Presidente da Sociedade Portuguesa de Neurociências (2007-2011) e é Membro Pleno da EDAB (Europena DANA Alliance for the Brain).

Biography:
Research Coordinator of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra Degree in Biology (1987), PhD in Cell Biology (1997) and Aggregation in Biomedicine (2009) by the University of Coimbra. He was Professor of Physiology at the University of Minho (1989 to 1999) and Researcher at the University of Coimbra (since 1999), where he is the director of the cycle of curricular units in Applied Research. lt develops research in the field of Neurosciences and Aging. He published about 120 scientific articles in international journals, with a significant impact on the scientific community; being cited by more than 3500 times, including quotes in journals like Science and Nature, among others (factor H36). He was the founder of the Ageing @ Coimbra consortium and Deputy Director l nnoStars of EIT Health, Knowledge and l nnovation Community (KIC). He was Deputy Director of the lnstitute for lnterdisciplinary Research (2013-2015), President of the Portuguese Society of Neurosciences (2007-2011) and is a Full Member of EDAB (Europena DANA Alliance for the Brain).
