Biografia:
Nasceu em 1965 e é Professor Auxiliar de História Contemporânea na FLUC. É, também, Investigador do Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares do Século XX da UC. Licenciado em História (1987) e profissionalizado em Ensino da História (1989) pela FLUC. Defendeu a sua dissertação de Mestrado em História Contemporânea de Portugal em 1993 - A história económica e social na FLUC (1911-1974) - e a dissertação de Doutoramento em História Contemporânea em 2006 - O Estado Novo e o Volfrâmio (1933-1947). É membro das Redações da Revista Portuguesa de História e da revista Estudos do Século XX. Tem investigado e publicado em áreas como a história do CADC de Coimbra e das “organizações de juventude” do Estado Novo e dos fascismos, a arqueologia industrial e o património cultural, a história do sector mineiro e da Segunda Guerra Mundial, a história da Igreja e da “ação católica” portuguesa, a museologia e a didática da História.

Biography:
Born in 1965, João Paulo Cabral de Almeida Avelãs Nunes is an auxiliary professor of Contemporary History at the University of Coimbra Faculty of Letters and a researcher at the Centre for 20th-Century Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Coimbra. He completed his bachelor’s in history in 1987, followed by certification as a history teacher in 1989 at the aforementioned institution. In 1993 he completed his master’s in contemporary Portuguese history with a thesis on the economic and social history of the University of Coimbra Faculty of Letters between 1911 and 1971. In 2006 he obtained his PhD in contemporary history with a dissertation on “The Estado Novo and Tungsten (1933-1947). A member of the editorial board of the Portuguese History Journal and of the journal Estudos do Século XX, he has researched and published in areas such as the history of the Coimbra CADC and youth organisations in the Estado Novo and on fascism, industrial archaeology and cultural heritage, the history of the mining sector and the Second World War, the history of the church and of the Portuguese “Catholic Good Works”, museology, and the teaching of history.
