Biografia:
É Professor Catedrático na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra e doutor honoris causa pelas Universidades de Bordéus (1985) e de Santiago de Compostela (1996).Recebeu o prémio Raoul Duseigneur da Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres (Paris) pela obra Les villas romaines de São Cucufate, Portugal (de colab. com R. Etienne e F. Mayet). A sua atividade docente tem-se exercido em diversos ramos da Arqueologia Clássica, História Antiga, Pré-História e Proto-História. Como investigador, o seu campo tem sido a arqueologia romana em Portugal e, mais recentemente, a teoria da Arqueologia. É autor de diversas obras e artigos, num total de mais de 190 títulos. Uma das principais obras, Roman Portugal, foi editado em Inglaterra (Warminster, 1988). Duas outras, Portugal Romano e O domínio romano em Portugal vão, respetivamente na 4ª e 3ª edições.

Biography:
Jorge Nogueira Lobo de Alarcão e Silva is a tenured professor at the University of Coimbra’s Faculty of Letters, having received honoris causa doctorates from the University of Bordeaux (1985) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (1996). He received the Raoul Duseigneur Award from the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres (Paris) for the work “Les villas romaines de São Cucufate, Portugal”, written in conjunction with R. Etienne and F. Mayet. As an instructor, he has taught a variety of subjects, including Classical archaeology, ancient history, pre-history, and proto-history. As a researcher he has focused his efforts on Roman archaeology in Portugal and, more recently, directed his attention toward the theory of archaeology. He is the author of many papers and articles, some one hundred and ninety in total. One of his principal works, <em>Roman Portugal</em>, was edited in England (Warminster, 1988). Two others, <em>Portugal Romano [“Roman Portugal”]</em> and <em>O domínio romano em Portugal [“The Roman domain in Portugal”]</em>, are in their fourth and third editions, respectively.
